How Pie in the Sky Is Responding to the Shutdown — and How You Can Help
As the government shutdown continues, Pie in the Sky is already seeing the ripple effects across our community. Many of the seniors we serve rely on federal nutrition programs like SNAP to help them make ends meet. With those benefits disrupted or delayed, more of our neighbors will be turning to Pie for help putting fresh, healthy food on the table.
We are preparing for a significant increase in need—especially among seniors who can’t get to food banks or other distribution sites because of mobility or transportation challenges. Pie in the Sky was built for times like this. Our model of delivering produce directly to seniors’ doors ensures no one is forgotten, even when other safety nets falter.
Here’s how our community can help right now:
*Donate: $83, that's just $2.76 a day, provides a full month of fresh produce for a senior in need. [bit.ly/4o0HeHr]
*Volunteer: Join our delivery teams, bag produce, or help us pick up donations from local farms and stores.
*Spread the Word: Share our mission and help connect isolated seniors to resources and community.
*Support the Endowment: A gift to Pie’s Endowment Fund helps ensure we can weather crises like this for years to come.
Pie in the Sky will continue to deliver hope, connection, and nutritious food—no matter how long the shutdown lasts. Together, we can make sure our seniors are cared for and our community stays strong.
Because when the system shuts down, we step up.
