It is with a humbled and grateful heart that I would like to announce that Pie in the Sky is the recipient of a grant from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund in Jacksonville in support of our Senior Produce Delivery.
I had the privilege of meeting with Mrs. Weaver back in January and telling her about our programs from the ground up. After a brief tour, we spoke in detail over lunch about the needs of our community and how to address them.
Subsequently, upon her recommendation, the fund awarded $10,000 to Pie in the Sky and an additional $15,000 Challenge grant, both of which will help us reach our goal of serving more than 200 low-income food insecure seniors in 2017.
The Challenge Grant works like this: If Pie in the Sky can successfully raise $15,000 from our donors and fundraisers, the fund will award us an additional $15,000. WOW! Talk about stretching our dollars! So from today going forward, every dollar donated to Pie in the Sky will get us closer to this goal.
Mrs. Weaver’s generosity is a wonderful and inspiring affirmation of the value of the work Pie in the Sky is doing in our community. And her confidence in offering this challenge grant is a tribute to the many loyal and supportive Friends of Pie who have donated so generously over the past years.
This a wonderful opportunity for our organization to grow and serve more of the 4100 food-insecure senior citizens who are neighbors and need our help.
When you think about giving in the next few months, please keep our goal in mind and know that your donation or your purchase at For the Birds will have twice the impact, dollar for dollar. We can do this Friends of Pie. Let’s show everyone what the little group with the biggest hearted supporters can do. Let’s match those funds in record time and when we do, know that because of you and Mrs. Weaver, 100 more hungry senior citizens will be hungry no more. What we do makes a difference for so many.
